Sumo Robot
Sumo robots are built from scratch or from kits or from the Lego Mindstorms set. The robots then compete in a sumo competition called Robot-sumo.
Robot-sumo is a competitive sport in which two robots try to push each other out of a circle just like humans do in the sport of Sumo. The robots used in Robot-sumo are called Sumo robots or just Sumobots.
The robotics challenge is for the robot to act autonomously. The Sumo robot must find its opponent (usually accomplished with infrared sensors) and then push it out of the arena. A Sumo robot also needs to avoid leaving the arena, usually by means of a sensor that detects the edge.
Building Sumo robots teaches students and hobbyists the basics of robotics from parts to programming to control logic. It also educates students and hobbyists about how important efficiency of machines and artificial intelligence programs are. Ultimately this helps to contribute to a more intelligent and better moving robot.
